Taiwan Inflation Lowest Since March 2021

(RTTNews) - Taiwan's consumer price inflation moderated in September to the lowest level in four-and-a-half years, data released by the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting, and Statistics showed on Wednesday.

The consumer price index climbed 1.25 percent year-on-year in September, slower than the 1.60 percent rise in August.

Further, this was the lowest inflation since March 2021, when prices rose 1.22 percent.

Food inflation softened to 2.64 percent in September from 3.18 percent in August, and the growth of housing costs slowed to 1.61 percent from 1.81 percent. Meanwhile, the decline in transportation and communication costs deepened to 2.02 percent from 1.34 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up a seasonally adjusted 0.11 percent in September versus a 0.12 increase in the prior month.
